Accredited Christian Education Launches Gap Year Home ...

World-Wide Web, 18-OCT-2012: Accredited Christian Education has launched a website that gives parents and students the ability to enhance their academic experience. The skilled team have created programs that include Gap Year opportunities and makes home schooling in South Africa more convenient and effective. Many students who are undecided about their career choices take advantage of the gap year to reflect, mature and learn about their interests and passion.

When interviewed recently, Susan Smith the Spokesperson for Accredited Christian Education stated, "Our Gap Year Program offers students an opportunity to participate in educational assistance mission trips in Africa, Russia, Denmark and other locations. During this period students are given an opportunity to learn more about their interests and gain valuable experiences that will help them to be successful and achieve their goals. Our skilled team offers the guidance and assistance that helps students become more prepared for life in a university, higher learning center, or make decisions and plans for their careers."

The ACE education system is designed and developed by skilled and dedicated individuals that are driven to help parents and students achieve their maximum potential. The home schooling South Africa team creates materials based on each student's individual learning style and encourages the talents and interests of students. Rather than standard education curricula ACE uses a results-driven process that encourages students to move through each step in the educational process at their own pace.

Materials are presented to students in texts, work packets and materials in sections that can be completed more efficiently and easily. Students do not feel overwhelmed by the work required and are able to digest material more quickly and easily. Quality curriculum is offered for students from pre-primary through grade 12 and include topics that allow students to explore topics they may be unfamiliar with in a nurturing and exciting environment.

Breaking ground on housing for LGBT seniors | RetirementRevised

Posted on 08 November 2012

By Mark Miller

Gay rights took a big stride forward in this week?s elections, with voters in four states affirming the right of same-sex couples to marry. But here?s an issue in the LGBT community that continues to fly under the radar: what happens to LGBT Americans when they get old?

?Our community has been focused for years on other issues, like AIDS/HIV, marriage equality and bullying,? says Mark Segal, a well-known advocate in the LGBT community and founder of the Philadelphia Gay News. ?But we?ve never developed a system for LGBT seniors, especially those who are low income and are very endangered.?

Housing is one of the most important emerging retirement issues for older LGBT Americans. Along with the nation?s broader age wave, the number of LGBT adults over age 65 will total four million by 2030, according to Services and Advocacy for LGBT Elders (SAGE), an advocacy organization for LGBT older adults. Research shows LGBT seniors are more likely to be single, without children or not have biological family members on whom they can rely for support as they age.

That means they will need the support of senior living facilities ranging from independent living quarters to assisted living and nursing home care. But mainstream retirement housing for this community has been problematic.

A survey of LGBT seniors who have lived in long-term care facilities, and their family members, released last year by a coalition of LGBT advocacy groups, revealed that most LGBT seniors aren?t comfortable discussing their sexual orientation with staff members of these facilities. It also found disturbing levels of discrimination by staff members, including abuse and neglect or isolation from other residents.

The situation is gradually improving, the result of federal policies aiming at increasing cultural sensitivity and new anti-discrimination rules.?Meanwhile, some LGBT advocates are taking steps to develop senior housing specifically targeting the needs of the gay community.

Bernanke's Job Is Safe, But Your Money Isn't Says ... - Yahoo! Finance

As much as stocks have been getting slammed so far in the brief post-election era, the same cannot be said for the U.S. dollar, which is up for a second day and sitting at a 2-month high. There are many explanations why investors are seeking out our currency at a time of dire fiscal concern, but at least one well-known skeptic says it's not going to last.

"Ben Bernanke's job is safe now that Obama was re-elected, but your money is not," says Peter Schiff of Euro Pacific Capital and author of The Real Crash: America's Coming Bankruptcy. "Ultimately, they're going to print even more money."

At the heart of his long-standing stance of domestic doom, Schiff cites the recent action by the Federal Reserve to extend its Operation Twist program into 2013 instead of letting it expire as originally intended. The net result of this action --which Schiff dubbed "QE3-Plus" in a recent article "When Infinite Inflation Isn't Enough"-- is going to be an even greater degree of money printing to the tune of $1 trillion a year.

Related: Market Weakness Is All About Obama Says Schiff

The Fed has defended its stimulus efforts as necessary and repeatedly insisted that when the time comes it will be able to extract itself and shrink its balance sheet without disruption or runaway inflation. Schiff disagrees.

"He (Bernanke) is lying. It is not inflation neutral, it is the very definition of inflation and the government tries to mask how bad it is by giving us phoney numbers," he argues, adding ominously that "it's only going to get worse because the Fed doesn't think we have enough inflation and is deliberately creating more."

This is what will lead to the real crash that Schiff has been warning about, during which he predicts we'll suffer a major currency collapse.

"It's all about confidence," Schiff says, adding that as long as investors believe that the Fed can maintain this, then Ben Bernanke will get away with it. "The minute the confidence is lost, this con game is over and we will have a real crash. So it is coming, will hit us hard, and probably happen in Obama's second term."

Schiff is a long term advocate of owning gold and continues to be.

(AP) ? Rihanna rocked the lingerie look at Wednesday night's Victoria's Secret fashion show in New York, providing the highlight of the live-music soundtrack and holding her own on the catwalk with some of the world's top models.

And those models even had props, including Adriana Lima's ringmaster wand, Doutzen Kroes' body cage and several pairs of the oversized wings that the retailer has made its signature. It would be a close contest who got the biggest wings: Toni Garrn's giant poppy pair or Miranda Kerr's swan-style feathered pouf. Only Lily Aldridge could boast star-spangled wings that shot out silver sparkles.

Alessandra Ambrosio's orchid-petal wings might have lacked a little grandeur, but she made up for it with a $2.5 million jeweled "floral fantasy bra."

Still, wearing a sheer pink mini that gave glimpses of her bra, Rihanna sang "Fresh Out the Runway" at the end of the corset-and-garter parade and she was the one to grab the audience's biggest applause.

The fashion show has become a pre-holiday season tradition for the retailer. CBS will turn it into a one-hour special, which also had performances from Justin Bieber and Bruno Mars, to be shown on Dec. 4.

This year's event had a slight twist. It started with an announcer noting that Victoria's Secret and CBS had each made a donation to relief efforts for Superstorm Sandy, and a thank you to the National Guard members who are based out of the Lexington Avenue Armory that has for years been home to the show.

Mostly, though, models are encouraged to smile, ham it up and show off the extra time at the gym that most admit to in the weeks beforehand. "It's highly televised, and you take that into consideration," said model Joan Smalls ahead of the show. "This is kind of not the same as other runways. You have to prepare your body: No. 1 is the wings are heavy, and No. 2 is you have to be comfortable with your body because the camera will pick up on it if you're not comfortable and confident."

There's an emphasis on glitz, skin and dramatic production here, not wearable undergarment trends for typical Victoria's Secret shoppers. It was divided into six sections: Circus, complete with acrobats, contortionists and a sword eater; Dangerous Liaisons; Pink Is Us; Silver Screen Angels; Angels in Bloom; and Calendar Girls, which allowed Bruno Mars to serenade a model for each month of the year.

For his first song, "Beauty and the Beat," Bieber, wearing low-slung white pants and a white leather studded vest, sat alone with his guitarist in the mellowest part of the show. For "As Long As You Love Me," however, he brought in backup dancers and interacted with the models while moving around a giant makeshift pinball machine.

"It's like a dream come true," said Bieber on the pink carpet before the show. "I would rather be here than anywhere in the world."

One of the star moments Down Under was captured by amateur photographer James Collier after he witnessed a thunderstorm in March.

James, from Geelong, Victoria, watched as the storm cell caused an abrupt increase in wind ? with gusts jumping from 30 km/h to 115 km/h as the storm passed nearby.

He said: ?It was calm, almost surreal. I was clicking off ten second time exposures when all of a sudden it let go.

?I really jumped and nearly fell out the back of the wagon. I wasn?t sure I had pressed the button and had several seconds of anxiety before I confirmed that I had it.

?There was a lot of sheet lightning and only the occasional bolt, missing what I thought was the best bolt as I adjusted the camera.

?I continued to shoot when the cell let go with this massive bolt. It was stunning to watch but all over in a second. I very nearly didn?t go out that night.?

Matt Titmanis shot nature and man made in perfect harmony for January.

The science teacher, from Perth, was on his way to Australia Day celebrations in January this year when he got his camera out.

With perfect timing, Matt photographed a multi-coloured fireworks display in the foreground of a huge lightning storm.

And full-time photographer Peter Macdonald, who has specialised in shooting the outback for 20-years, was left mesmerised by the dust storm used in September.

The photo, taken in 2008, captures the sheer size of the 50km storm which was so large it only within the lens from 4km away.

Peter, from South Australia, said: ?Unfortunately I left it too late to run. A howling mass of sand hit me, I could barely see, and had difficulty finding the car.

?When I did I stupidly opened the door and it was amazing how much sand got in.

Stop Abuse Of Religions | Kuwait Times

Universally, religion remains the nucleus of any society as it has significant impact on the daily lives of the people. It is a system that generates multiple systems, including political, economic, social and cultural and hence it cannot be excluded from any society, even the most secular political ones. Religion is a complete code of life and impacts the cultural and social realities of any society. In that perspective religion determines how life is managed and lived.

There are approximately 4,200 religions in the world and the followers of each religion inhabit different geographical areas and belong to different ethnic groups. Each group believes it holds the correct view and follows the right path. As a result, its followers tend to think they are more righteous than others who they sometimes describe as superstitious. This very view that favors a particular religious or ethnic group over others and considers them as outsiders gives rise to antagonism. This is a thinking that might instigate some to violence against other religious groups.

History testifies that such extremist ideas produce people with radical thinking who try to impose their dogma on others by force. They don?t even hesitate to sacrifice themselves believing they are dying for a right cause.

This is true today as there are reports almost everyday from all around the world about groups that are deemed religious but commit heinous crimes against people of other faiths under the pretext of religious justification. The world will become a chaotic place if intolerance increases and every so-called religious group attacks and kills the members of the other faith. The world has suffered due to religious intolerance and is still suffering because of some extremist groups that have played havoc with religion and disrupted the social harmony within a particular society and among nations.

Realizing the gravity of the situation at the world level, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah, being the leader of the Muslim Ummah, called for interfaith and cultural dialogue. This initiative aims to take the world to a state of religious and cultural understanding and harmony that is so essential to end conflicts and ensure peace. Religion influences the cultural and social milieu of any ethnic group or country and it cannot be changed.

The Soviet Union is a glowing example of this. Its political regime tried to enforce with iron fist its communist dogma on the people while at the same time banned religious practices and their symbolic public appearance in any shape or form. When the Soviet Union collapsed and the Islamic countries within the USSR seceded, Muslims in those republics started practicing their religion publicly. Religion and culture can be causes of misunderstanding and consequently a source of confrontation among peoples and nations. Interfaith and cultural dialogue reduces religious misunderstanding and cultural differences by focusing on religious commonalities and universal values that bring followers of different faiths and the people of the world together.

The world would be a better place when people stop perceiving religious and cultural differences as threats to their views and lifestyles, but rather acknowledge them as a source of enrichment to their lives, which would result in appreciation of others as their fellow human beings. Insulting religions and their sacred symbols only spark animosity between followers of various faiths. The role of King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz International Center for Interreligious and Intercultural Dialogue is to ?act as a hub among religions and cultures, empowering others already working in the field of dialogue and promoting harmony and cooperation.? As the center moves on to achieve its peaceful objectives, the center ought to extend its hands to similar civil and international organizations to bring to reality the call of King Abdullah for the world to condemn insults of religion and prophets by issuing a UN resolution to this effect. There are several United Nations organizations whose primary responsibility is to safeguard the laws and principles that respect religions and cultures. In addition to that the UN sponsors a World Interfaith Harmony Week that also aims to promote religious harmony.

Thus, the political platform to achieve this objective is already in place. Also, coordination with other interfaith organizations would help pressure the UN to adopt a resolution condemning blasphemy and abuse of religions and religious icons. Among the similar organizations are the Parliament of the World?s Religions that works toward affirming universal values and recognition of the diversity among different cultures; A Common Word (ACW), an organization that focuses on bringing Muslim and Christian leaders together; the C1 World Dialogue, an initiative whose mission is to support and promote, propagate and preserve, peace, harmony and friendship between the Western and Islamic world; and the Common Ground, a body that promotes understanding between Islam and Buddhism. The world has shrunk to a great extent in terms of interconnectivity.

Hence, what happens in a seemingly far away place has its effects on other nations of the world. So, the people of the world need social harmony to live in peace and prosperity that can be achieved through religious and cultural understanding.
