Region I softball quarterfinal: Chancellor 2, Smithfield 0 - The Sports ...

BY JUSTIN RICE

Two big plays Chancellor?s softball team failed to make quickly turned into two even bigger plays the Chargers did complete, and now Chancellor is a win away from the Group AA state tournament.
Catcher Elaine Wood dropped the throw on a play at home, but her block of the plate was so complete she had time to pick the ball up and erase the go-ahead run.
And Laura Phoebus failed to get a no-out, fifth-inning bunt down, but stroked the next pitch for an RBI triple?the only run Chancellor needed in a 2?0 win against Smithfield on Monday in the Region I quarterfinals.
The Chargers will host Culpeper at 5 p.m. on Wednesday in the region semifinals. The winner of that game clinches a state tournament spot.
Both Wood and Phoebus played instrumental parts on Monday.
Smithfield stranded runners on third base in the second, fifth and sixth innings, but the Packers? best threat came in the fourth, when the game was still scoreless.
Allie Surbaugh led off with a triple to right-center field. Chancellor pitcher Jo?Ellen Cabrera got a strikeout, but No. 8 hitter Katie Potter laid down a nice bunt that rolled right to Cabrera.
Surbaugh broke for home; Cabrera threw quickly to Wood, who dropped the ball trying to apply the tag.
Wood is a very good outfielder. Or sometimes an infielder. Or really she?s been whatever coach Monica Larkin has needed.
?She?s a ball player,? Cabrera said. ?She can go anywhere. We call her the plug?put her anywhere. Need her at third? Shortstop? She?s played pretty much every where.?
Late this season, Chancellor starting catcher Riley Pates was injured. Coach Monica Larkin needed a catcher, a spot where Wood hadn?t played since her Little League days.
?She?s been a four-year outfield starter,? Larkin said. ?And in year?s past, wherever we?ve had a problem, we?ve put her there.?
So it may not have been a surprise that Wood dropped Cabrera?s throw. What was a surprise was the left knee Wood put down?instinctively, she said, because she?s received so little instruction on how to be a catcher?that stopped Surbaugh?s slide short of home.
Wood had time to pick up the dropped throw and tag the runner out, preserving the scoreless tie.
As Chancellor?s hitters prepared for the bottom of the fifth, Larkin and her assistant coaches conferred?they?d try to play small ball?bunting and slapping, hoping to scratch out a run.
The Chargers had been overmatched by Smithfield freshman Sydney Gay to that point, having hit just one soft single in the third inning.
So when Heather McDaniel was hit by a pitch to lead off the fifth, it was the perfect situation for the game plan Larkin had worked out: Phoebus would try to bunt McDaniel over to second, leaving Chancellor two more outs to try to get a run home.
Phoebus squared at Gay?s first pitch and just got a piece of the ball, fouling it straight back for strike one.
?Oh I?ve got to hit the ball now,? Phoebus said she was thinking. ?I had to put it in play. That would have been bad coming into the dugout.?
Larkin called off the bunt?if Phoebus was going to have to swing away, she wanted the junior to have two strikes to work with.
Phoebus needed only one. The next pitch she saw was drilled to deep right field. McDaniel scored easily, and Phoebus stopped at third.
Marisa Soto followed with a sacrifice fly to center field, and Chancellor led 2?0.
?I was frustrated,? Larkin said, that Phoebus didn?t get the bunt down. ?But I really think she?s the most underrated player I have, and she hits like that every day in practice. She?s come up big a lot this year for us.?

Why People Stick with Cancer Screening, Even When It Causes Harm

When it comes to complex medical decisions, cold hard statistics may hold little sway over patients in the face of a single, compelling anecdote.

Getty Images

Getty Images

Prostate cancer cell

The data on PSA testing to detect prostate cancer has long been shaky ? so much so that the discoverer of PSA (or prostate-specific antigen, an enzyme made by the prostate) himself decried the test two years ago as ?hardly more effective than a coin toss.?

He characterized the widespread use of the cancer-screening tool as ?a hugely expensive public health disaster.? This week, the U.S. National Preventive Services Task Force concurred, officially recommending against PSA screening for all healthy men of any age.

So why do people ? particularly cancer patients and their advocates ? continue to support the routine use of ineffective tests? In the case of PSA tests, positive results often lead to unnecessary and painful biopsies and the treatment of tumors that would never have harmed the patient anyway, further leading to side effects like infection, incontinence, impotence, even death.

(MORE: Prostate Cancer Screening: What You Need to Know)

Similarly, why do women resist recommendations to scale back routine breast cancer screening with mammography, when doing so would reduce their risk of unnecessary and painful interventions and treatments?

A new review explores some of the psychological reasons for the resistance, and offers a possible solution. The first reason, say researchers Hal Arkes of Ohio State University and Wolfgang Gaissmaier of the Max Planck Institute in Germany, is one that every journalist and medical quack knows well: a good anecdote often trumps even the most overwhelming statistics.

Prostate and breast cancer survivors and their families certainly have compelling stories, which are frequently given intense media attention, particularly when famous people, such as Rudy Guiliani or Warren Buffett, are affected.

(MORE: Warren Buffett?s Prostate Cancer: ?I Feel Great?)

But survivor stories don?t have to involve celebrities to make an impact. ?Most people know someone ? their mailman?s older brother ? who had a positive PSA test and he?s still alive after treatment. So that shows the PSA test saved his life,? explains Arkes.

Research shows repeatedly that while a single story of an individual case will compel people to take action, cold statistics on hundreds of cases may make action less likely. This means that government task force guidelines ? such as those on prostate cancer and breast cancer screening ? based on data on thousands of cases may play less of a role in people?s medical decision-making than their knowledge of one case of someone they know. This is true whether the case represents a rare outcome or a common one.

?If you have a person standing in front of you who says, ?I had my life saved by a PSA test,? that?s powerful. It makes a big impression and hits you right on the retina, whereas if you see some statistic saying this many men had positive PSA tests and false-positive this and that, your eyes glaze over,? says Arkes.

(MORE: When Cancer Screening Does More Harm than Good)

Another reason people adhere to personal experience is that they have a deep-seated need for suffering to be meaningful. So, the more you have suffered or paid for an experience, the more valuable it becomes. The phenomenon applies to minor costs ? research finds that people who paid more for the same dinner describe it as more enjoyable ? as well as major ones. If you have endured surgery, chemo or radiation, and particularly if you have suffered terrible side effects as a result, you are more likely to believe that ? despite what the statistics say ? you were one of the lucky ones for whom treatment was lifesaving. You? re not likely to believe that your pain was unnecessary.

This need for meaning is completely understandable and human, but it, too, can skew decision-making, especially when these stories feature prominently in a debate. Fortunately, there may be a relatively simple way to get around these quirks of human nature and help people make informed choices about complex issues including cancer screening.

(HEALTH SPECIAL: Cancer ? The Screening Dilemma)

The authors of the new study cite previous research that asked people to make hypothetical choices for the treatment of heart disease. The participants were given information showing that one option had a 75% cure rate, while another had a 50% cure rate. They were also told anecdotes about other patients that either represented the data accurately or made it seem like the success rates of both options were equal. People who heard the misleading anecdotes were twice as likely to choose the less successful treatment option.

However, when participants were presented with a graphic representation of the cure rates ? similar to the graphic, below, on outcomes of prostate cancer screening ? they were not as swayed by misleading anecdotes. People tended to choose the more successful treatment option.

Other studies have also suggested that data visualization helps people better understand information, which has led to the development of drug fact boxes based on this principle.

Of course, most people remain terrified of cancer no matter what the data say, and so they may seek screening because it offers some sense of control. Using visual data that ?hits the retina? like an anecdote could help people make critical choices that are actually better for their health.

The research was published in Psychological Science.

Student art show explores bloom of youth, community | Sun Journal

NORWAY ? What does it mean to bloom?

That's the question students in Virginia Valdes' graphic design and digital imaging classes attempt to answer through their visual arts interpretation of the blooming community of Norway and themselves as teenagers. A show of their work is on display at the Commons Art Collective on Main Street.

Using illustrations, typography, photography, image manipulation, screen printing and block prints, the students from three levels of the class celebrate the people who are considered forces of change in Norway and themselves as they bloom and change as teenagers, Valdes said.

The show is open at the Commons Art Collective at 447 Main St., next to the Fare Share, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, when it closes after a two-week run that has drawn large crowds.

?Change. It's all about change,? Valdes said.

The students and instructor describe the show by saying, ?This blooming can be a physical change, such as getting tattoos, or temporarily changing your gender by donning a fake mustache. You can also mentally alter your state of mind by taking prescription drugs or changing the way you perceive others. These changes have taught us that we need to sustain our youth and preserve our community, without the help of Miracle Gro or Botox. In order for our community to continue to flourish, we must preserve and restore what we have, such as revitalizing Main Street, having a community garden, and creating safe environments for teenagers to go and have fun.?

All of these issues are illustrated in various artistic forms in the show.

Large illustrations of ?change makers? in Norway, such as Norway Downtown's Andrea Burns and Brenda Melhus, Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School Principal Ted Moccia, Cafe Nomad owner Scott Berk, Katey Branch, who helped her daughters Emma and Ruby DayBranch developed the Alan Day Community Garden in honor of their dad and many more ?changers? of Norway are included in the show. The subjects were interviewed about their visions, and the interviews, which were done by student Megan Creney, are available for viewing on a monitor set up in the gallery. Written descriptions of how they helped Norway change are printed? on the back sides of the hanging illustrations.

The show asks how will Norway rebloom as a town, the structure, community, its life and how will its residents and others influence what the community will bloom into.

?The possibilities of these open-ended questions are what we have explored here,? Valdes said.

In Joplin, a senior year to remember after tornado

JOPLIN, Mo. (AP) ? It was a label they sought both to embrace and avoid, a refrain overheard in whispers or uttered bluntly at soccer games, summer camps and national academic competitions: Here come the tornado kids from Joplin.

For the 428 members of Joplin High School's Class of 2012, Monday night's graduation? featuring a commencement speech by President Barack Obama ?caps a senior year marked by tragedy, turmoil and perseverance.

The president will visit southwest Missouri the day before the one-year anniversary of the country's deadliest single tornado in six decades. The May 22, 2011, twister killed 161 people, injured hundreds more and destroyed thousands of buildings, including Joplin High. Five other Joplin schools were also destroyed, with four more among the damaged structures.

The twister arrived hours after last year's high school graduation, forever defining the Joplin High Class of 2011 and their younger classmates as well.

"They had to grow up the night of the storm," Joplin High principal Kerry Sachetta said. "They saw things they never should have had to see."

School officials vowed to return to class on time. They turned a vacant big-box retail store at the city's only mall into a temporary Joplin High for juniors and seniors, with freshmen and 10th-graders at another location across town. A middle school relocated to an industrial park warehouse.

Despite the less-than-ideal location, Joplin students embraced their return to a school they saw as a refuge, a safe haven in a town otherwise gone awry, said Joplin High English teacher Brenda White.

"Those kids who lost something needed normalcy," she said. "And there was no real place to go. But school is a normal place."

The Joplin tornado helped tighten bonds, diminish cliques, elevate school spirit and strengthen community ties, students and teachers said. Fights and other disciplinary violations declined dramatically.

"Once we had been through (everything) this last year, people just weren't interested in a lot of the general high school nonsense," said graduating senior Derek Carter, who will attend the University of Alabama in the fall. "Everyone realized that the carefree nature of high school that we always had, it just doesn't fit as well anymore."

Carter and his classmates have been feted by celebrities, from American Idol winner David Cook's performance at the homecoming dance to pop star Katy Perry's welcome message for prom.

With few textbooks to salvage from the rubble, the school overhauled its approach to teaching and embraced a technology-first approach, thanks to an estimated donation of $1 million from the United Arab Emirates government that helped equip each Joplin high school student with a laptop computer.

The transition wasn't entirely smooth, White said.

"I have never worked so hard in my life at any job as I have this year," she said. "Everything was brand new. There were no books. You had to get your own lessons. You had to get the kids up to speed. You had to get up to speed. You had to learn (computer) programs and how to structure the information."

On Tuesday, the Joplin school system will symbolically break ground at three new schools being built to replace those lost last year, including a new high school expected to open in 2014. Construction will be financed in part by a $62 million bond issued approved by Joplin voters in April.

Graduating senior Siri Ancha, who plans to study medicine in a combined six-year degree program at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, used to think she would leave Joplin behind once college beckoned. Ancha now realizes that she's inextricably linked to her hometown.

"For the longest time, I thought I had to go to college some place far away, I had to leave this place," she said. "But I'm glad I'm only going to be three hours away now. Because being a part of this town has meant so much to me, especially this year. Not just because of the tornado. Joplin is a great community. I definitely have the Joplin pride now."

A Holistic Approach to Health

We have all heard the old adage that a healthy mind is a healthy body so just how do you go about striking the perfect balance? Keeping your mind healthy is a relatively straightforward task that won?t change the way you normally live your life. Stimulating the brain helps to keep the mind healthy and happy.

Crosswords and puzzles are a great form of mental exercise. Word games like Scrabble make your mind engage in problem solving and are a great way to keep your thinking sharp. Access all corners of your brain by using day to day gadgets, like calculators, less. Mathematics may not be your thing but most of us can do simple arithmetic and using parts of your brain that are generally underused is a ideal means of utilising all the knowledge stored up there.

Challenge your brain by learning and experiencing new things outside of your usual routine. Ever dreamed of learning how to sail or pondered over the possibility of taking up pottery? Having a hobby is a good way to release your creative capabilities and stretching your brain beyond its usual daily remit is effective at keeping both mind and body happy. A simple thing you can do absolutely anywhere and which really gives your brain a workout is switching hands. Try using your less dominant hand for simple tasks like eating or writing, which can push your brainpower a little bit extra.

Healthy eating is essential for overall wellbeing and doesn?t need to be difficult. Adding fresh fruit and vegetables to your daily diet is a simple way of staying healthy. Some types of fruits and vegetables are especially potent and give you double the dose of goodness; generally speaking the brighter the colour the greater the amount of antioxidant properties so stock up on colourful treats that pack a powerful punch. Aim for five portions of fruit and vegetables every day and your mind and body will thank you for it.

Eating whole grains is another easy way to aid good health. Wholemeal bread and brown pasta help to up your intake of good grains and work wonders for wellbeing. It is often advised that all this healthy eating should be complemented with a spot of exercise to complete the equation.

Improve fitness and overall health immeasurably by embarking on a frequent exercise regime. You need to raise your heart rate to a good working level four times a week for 30 minutes to make changes and it doesn?t matter what time of day you exercise, so long as you do it.

Adopting a healthy lifestyle not only leads to a healthier body and mind, it can also lead to a healthier wallet too. When shopping for life insurance, for example, you may find that some health insurance companies enquire about your health and fitness levels, rewarding customers perceived to be healthier with lower premiums. What?s more, you don?t have to interrupt your daily health regime to find cover either as you can investigate, research and arrange life insurance online, leaving you with even more time to cook a healthy meal or go for a cycle!

Coffee gives jolt to life span

Java consumption linked to slightly increased longevity

Web edition : Wednesday, May 16th, 2012

It?s the news that coffee addicts have been waiting for: Drinking several cups of coffee every day may help you live longer. A study of more than 400,000 people finds that drinking coffee reduces the risk of death from heart disease, stroke and even infections, researchers report in the May 17 New England Journal of Medicine.

Scientists have long puzzled over the notion that a stimulant could provide a health benefit. ?There?s been a concern for a long time? that coffee could even be detrimental, says study coauthor Neal Freedman, an epidemiologist at the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, Md. ?Our results might provide some reassurance for long-term coffee drinkers.?

Since the study volunteers weren?t randomly assigned to drink coffee or not, the research has the limitations of being observational in nature. But with data from 402,260 participants, the results are ?very powerful? and unlikely to be superseded by another coffee study anytime soon, says Roy Ziegelstein, a cardiologist at the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. ?This might be as good as it gets,? he says.

Freedman and his colleagues analyzed data provided by men and women who completed a detailed questionnaire that included information about coffee intake as part of a medical study?in the mid-1990s. The researchers excluded people who had previously had cancer, heart disease or some other serious illness and recorded the remaining volunteers? mortality status through 2008 by checking death records.

During a median follow-up of 13.6 years, people who drank two or more cups of coffee per day were 10 to 16 percent less likely to have died than nondrinkers. A single cup a day provided less apparent benefit. Women seemed to get more out drinking ample java than men; women who drank six cups of coffee per day had a 15 percent reduced risk of death compared with nondrinkers, while men consuming that much had only a 10 percent reduced risk.

More than two cups a day seemed to offer some protection against death due to heart disease, respiratory ailments and diabetes, while four or more cups a day imparted apparent benefits against stroke and infections.

The researchers accounted for differences between coffee drinkers and nondrinkers such as body mass, smoking status and the consumption of alcohol, red meat, white meat, vitamins, fruits and vegetables.

Caffeine may not play a big role in coffee?s apparent benefit. Decaffeinated coffee consumption was associated with about the same longevity edge as regular. ?There are a huge number of chemically active components aside from caffeine in coffee,? says Rachel Huxley, an epidemiologist at the University of Minnesota School of Public Health in Minneapolis. ?Given that the relationship between coffee intake and reduced mortality is not confined to one particular disease suggests that there are a lot of possible mechanisms involved.?

Disco legend Donna Summer dead at 63

By Gael Fashingbauer Cooper

Disco legend Donna Summer died?Thursday at age 63, reportedly?after a battle with cancer.

Michael Ochs Archives / Getty Images

"Early this morning, we lost Donna Summer Sudano, a woman of many gifts, the greatest being her faith," the singer's family said in a statement. "While we grieve her passing, we are at peace celebrating her extraordinary life and her continued legacy. Words truly can't express how much we appreciate your prayers and love for our family at this sensitive time."

TMZ was the first to report the singer's?death, and the site?reports that she was recording an album at the time of her death.

The Grammy-winning singer, nicknamed?the Queen of Disco,?had numerous hits in both the 1970s and 1980s, including "Last Dance," "She Works Hard for the Money" and "Bad Girls."

Her duet with Barbra Streisand, "No More Tears (Enough Is Enough)" was one of four Summer songs that topped the Billboard Top 100 charts.

"I was shocked to hear about Donna," Streisand said in a statement. "She was so vital the last time I saw her a few months ago. I loved doing the duet with her. She had an amazing voice and was so talented."

Summer was the first female artist to?chart with?back-to-back multi-platinum double albums.

She appeared in the 1978 film, "Thank God It's Friday," which won the best original song Oscar for "Last Dance." Summer also appeared twice?on the 1990s hit TV show "Family Matters," playing Steve Urkel's Aunt Oona from Altoona. In 2011, she was a guest judge on music reality show "Platinum Hit," and she performed with the female finalists on the 2008 "American Idol" finale.

Summer won five Grammy Awards and six American Music Awards, and charted three multi-platinum albums.

In 2009, she sang at the Nobel Peace Prize Concert honoring President Barack Obama in Oslo, Norway.

Musician Questlove of The Roots tweeted, "I know that the whole 'disco sucks' stuff left a bad taste in the mouths of some. But Summer's work was really a credible legacy."

Wrote Mario Lopez, "R.I.P Donna Summer ... I remember roller skating to hits like 'Last Dance' 'Hot Stuff' & 'Bad Girls.' Synonymous with the 70's."

Summer was also a formally trained painter. In 2010, she told Atlantic City Weekly that she sold her first painting for $38,000 and thought, "I may want to stop singing now." Summer estimated she had sold close to a million dollars worth of art.

She is survived by her husband, musician Bruce Sudano,?three daughters, and four grandchildren.

HP Photosmart 5520 e-All-in-One

Designed primarily for home use, without office-centric features like faxing or an automatic document feeder, the HP Photosmart 5520 e-All-in-One ($129.99 direct) is a different kind of multifunction printer. On the one hand it offers a low-end set of features in many ways. Its paper capacity is a meager 80 sheets for example. On the other hand, it offers a slew of features? from Wi-Fi to direct printing from iOS and Android devices? that are anything but low end. The result is a printer that's basic in some ways, highly sophisticated in others, and well worth considering for home use or for the dual role of home and light-duty home office printer.

The 5520 seems inspired by the same underlying design philosophy as the office-centric HP Officejet 6600 e-All-in-One ($149.99 direct, 3.5 stars) that I recently reviewed. This is certainly true to the extent that both take a pass on a lot of common extras like an Ethernet connector while offering lots of less common extras. For example, both use touch screens for their front panel controls, with well designed menus that make them easy to use. More significantly, both offer a collection of features that earn them HP's designation of e-All-in-One.

For the 5520, being an e-All-in-One means that it supports HP ePrint (HP's approach to printing through the cloud), HP Web apps (a collection of apps available through the Web), Apple AirPrint (for printing from iOS devices), and the HP ePrint Home & Biz print app (for printing from both Android and iOS devices).

Note that to take advantage of ePrint, AirPrint, or HP's Web apps, it's not enough for the printer to be connected by a USB cable to a computer that's on a network. The printer itself has to be connected to a network by WiFi. And for ePrint and Web apps, the network has to be connected to the internet. However, the HP ePrint Home & Biz print app can connect to the printer directly, whether you have a WiFi network or not.

Basics
The 5520's basic MFP features are limited to printing, scanning, and copying. It can also print from or scan to memory cards, but it lacks a USB type A port for printing from PictBridge cameras or for printing from and scanning to USB keys. Like many home-oriented printers, however, it includes built-in templates you can print from commands in the front-panel menu system, including choices for notebook paper, graph paper, music paper, and games, with unlimited variations on mazes and Sudoku puzzles generated by built-in algorithms.

The paper capacity is limited to just 80 sheets, but the printer also includes automatic duplexing (for printing on both sides of the page), which is a welcome option for saving paper. One benefit of a low paper capacity is that the printer doesn't have to be very large. With the trays fully extended, the 5520 measures 16.3 by 17.5 by 22.6 inches (HWD), but the printer body is only about 12 inches deep. You shouldn't have any trouble finding room for it on your desk.

Setup, Speed and Output Quality

Setting up the 5520 is standard fare. For my tests, I connected it by USB cable and installed the drivers and software on a system running Windows Vista.

HP Photosmart 5520 e-All-in-One

On our business applications suite, (timed with QualityLogic's hardware and software), the printer came in at a reasonably fast 3.7 pages per minute (ppm). That's a bit slower than the less expensive Brother MFC-J430w ($100 street, 4 stars), but MFC-J430w's fast speed is one of the reasons why it's an Editors' Choice. To put both speeds in context, note that the somewhat more expensive Editors' Choice Brother MFC-J825DW ($150 street, 4 stars) scored 4 ppm. Also, note that the 5520 scored well on photo speed, averaging 1 minute 3 seconds for a 4-by-6 photo.

Much like its speed, the 5520's output quality overall is reasonably good, but not impressive. Text quality is a step above par for an inkjet, but it's balanced by graphics quality that's a step below par. Photo quality is dead on par.

Text is easily good enough for home use or most business use. I wouldn't use it for a resume or other output that needs to look fully professional, but some fonts qualify as highly readable even at sizes as small as 4 points. Graphics are also high enough quality for most business needs, but I saw subtle banding and occasional streaks of white in solid areas in my tests. Color photos are a match for what you can expect from drugstore prints. However, images with dark areas aren't as contrasty as they should be, and a black and white photo in my test showed different color tints at different shades of gray.

I'd like this printer better if it included an Ethernet connector, so you wouldn't be forced to have Wi-Fi to use most of the features that make it an e-All-in-One. If you already have a Wi-Fi network, however, don't mind setting one up to take full advantage of the printer, or don't have any need of the Internet or Wi-Fi based features, that's not an issue. In any of these scenarios, if you need a printer at home with reasonably fast speed and suitably high-quality output, the HP Photosmart 5520 e-All-in-One is a more than reasonable choice.

Apple's iPad WiFi + 4G renamed 'iPad WiFi + Cellular' across many of its online stores

Image

Remember Apple's new iPad WiFi + 4G? Well, forget that moniker, as this variant of the company's latest slate has been quietly re-dubbed as the iPad WiFi + Cellular. As noticed by 9to5Mac, the change occurred within the last "24-48 hours" across many of Apple's region specific webstores, including (but not limited to) those for the US, UK, Australia, Canada and various countries in Asia. If you'll recall, in many regions the best you'll get out of the slate is HSPA-connectivity, even though the slate is also equipped for LTE -- something that Apple itself had considered good enough to market it as 4G despite offering refunds to customers in Australia who (like many others) couldn't officially partake in its LTE. Interestingly, 9to5Mac also notes that a similar change hasn't made its way over to the iPad 2, which still has its cellular-equipped variant named, iPad 2 WiFi + 3G. We're reaching out to Apple for comment, so stay tuned. In the meantime, feel free to hit up the source links below for more insight.

Knockout of the week: Chan Sung Jung?s quick strike on Mark Hominick

Everyone's favorite zombie, Chan Sung Jung, is fighting Dustin Poirier at UFC on Fuel 3 Tuesday night. Here's a little reminder of what the featherweight can do:

His last two bouts ended memorably. In December, he knocked out Mark Hominick, as seen above, and in March of 2011 took out Leonard Garcia with the rarely-seen twister submission. Will he pull the great-ending hat trick on Tuesday? Tell us in the comments, on Facebook or on Twitter.
